Why is sleep important?
We know that rest and sleep are vitally important to keep our immune systems as strong as possible. Proper sleep and an improved immune system are essential for quickening the recovery process.
Unfortunately, we lack this basic necessity many times for various reasons. Common reasons for insufficient sleep or sleep interference are work stress, exam pressure, insomnia, and a new baby at home.
Though they are all unavoidable, it doesn’t mean that you should let them affect your sleep.
You have to do your best to get as much sleep as possible. When you get enough rest or sleep, you allow your body to recover and reset. For adults, anywhere from six to eight hours of sleep is usually enough. You need a little bit more if you’re a teenager, while little kids need even more sleep.
How does lack of sleep affect the body?
Through adequate sleep, you let your body rest and recover from all the stressors and the damage we go through during the day. When you sleep, your body releases cytokines, the cells that can help build your immune system.
If you lack sleep, your body doesn’t get a chance to release these cytokines into your body required to help fight off the virus and bacteria. It ultimately affects your immune system and leaves you susceptible to getting sick.
And that’s a big point to remember: the direct correlation between lack of sleep and a higher incidence of sickness.
